UniSwapHD - Kickoff Meeting in Berlin

Berlin, 9 March 2023 - Taking place at DIN-headquarters in Berlin, the university-led research project UniSwapHD was kicked off on 9th of March 2023 by Prof. Stefanie Marker as the head of Chair of Naturalistic Driving Observation for Energetic Optimisation and Accident Avoidance (FVB) of TU Berlin, and Dr. Jens-Olav Jerratsch as the project leader from the same department.

“I feel excited to have some of the biggest names in the electric truck world joining us in this room, to witness the start of this promising technology from the beginning on!”, said Prof. Marker during her kick-off speech.

Attended in Berlin by representatives from the truck industry such as Designwerk (SUI), Daimler Trucks (GER), Traton Group (GER) and Volvo Group (SWE), the presented technology already induced the interests of the parties to take part to accelerate the electrification in the transportation sector. In addition the meeting was also attended by representatives of other relevant stakeholders such as DIN (GER), Durot Electric (SUI), Fraunhofer IVI (GER), Greiwing Truck & Trailer (GER), IBAR Systemtechnik (GER), Reinert Logistics (GER), Shell (UK), CATL (CN), Bosch (GER) and ENBW (GER).

The project UniSwapHD will explore the interoperability of battery swapping technology for electric trucks in highway transport with the goal to start a standardization process. The project accompanies the ongoing project eHaul, which develops the proof-of-concept for the swapping technology and business feasibility for electric trucks.

“We think that this exchange served to spread the idea of battery swapping and standardization among key industry players” summarized project leader Jens-Olav Jerratsch the successful kick-off meeting.
